Alpha Animation is an LA-based division of China’s largest animation group and leading pan-entertainment platform, Alpha Group Co. With an aim to develop and produce animated feature films in new overseas markets, they have also partnered with Hasbro, and invested in Michael Bay’s 451 Media Group and three of New Regency’s major motion pictures (The Revenant, Assassin’s Creed, and Splinter Cell).

• Streamline production and distribution channels to produce animated feature films for worldwide distribution.
• Remodel around pre-existing infrastructure to create a top-flight creative space suitable for feature film creation with 1/4 of the budget of a typical Hollywood-industry screening theater.
• Internally screen film quality assets, preliminary animatics, and other works-in-progress on a theater-grade screen in Dolby 3D, Dolby Surround Sound, and 4k quality.

Mizzen’s design team worked with newly-hired CEO Bob Bacon, a former executive at Disney and Paramount Pictures, to produce a comprehensive design package for high-speed connectivity, hidden cable infrastructure, acoustical treatment, and optimized equipment for a content screening theater, editorial suites, conference rooms, executive offices and creative space. This included particular care to the shape and orientations of rooms, including door, window, and furniture placement, to achieve maximum acoustical performance in each space. Pre-existing building infrastructure features were accommodated by smart theater, room, and cable infrastructure placement. Mizzen’s guidance through equipment selection helped balance budget and performance so Alpha Animation received the best bang for their buck.

Mizzen met Alpha Animation’s technology infrastructure, performance, and aesthetic goals while remaining under their target budget. Alpha Animation’s 50,000 sq. ft. studio includes a screening theater, (3) audio editing bays, conference rooms, offices and creative space for up to 90 visual editors, and centralized storage to deliver content to the screening theater from the editing bays and workspaces. The 48-seat screening theater is powered by a cinema-grade projector that is Dolby 3D capable, a custom-made 2.35:1 screen, and bespoke Dolby Surround Sound audio system. This makes Alpha Animation one of the few production facilities in the industry that can screen 3D-content at 4k resolution in-house.

Alpha Animation is currently working on a number of productions with the studio’s first feature-film scheduled for release in 2020.
