James Roday (Director/Actor, Psych) and Matt Shakman (Director, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) purchased Hollywood’s historic El Centro theater to preserve it’s entertainment legacy, which dates back to Charlie Chaplin. The challenge was to integrate a classic live-stage setup with the functionality of a screening room and sound stage for added revenue streams.
The final design included a wonderfully integrated, cross-functional live-stage, orchestra pit, and 4k theater with 7.1 surround. To optimize the space for use as a revenue-producing sound stage, detachable seats were designed at the mix position to allow for easy conversion of functionality. Custom desks were also designed to store sound stage equipment in the available closet space. Construction is set to be complete mid-2017.
